Motion detection triggers far too many false alarms

Constant false alarms quickly erode trust in the system. The following order gives the biggest improvement.

  1. Lower sensitivity and tighten the region: restrict detection to what actually matters — the gate, the perimeter, the cash office — and exclude the road, tree shadows and public corridors.
  2. Change the detection type: prefer human and vehicle detection over pixel-change motion detection. Class-based analytics filter out foliage, light shifts, rain and snow at source.
  3. Handle lighting interference: the night-time IR-cut switch, streetlights and passing headlights all trigger alerts. Suppress alarms during the IR transition or lower night sensitivity.
  4. Set sensible schedules and intervals: arm only outside working hours and suppress repeats of the same alarm within 30 seconds to cut notification noise sharply.

If nuisance alarms persist, capture a sample recording and ask the vendor to tune the algorithm thresholds or recommend a better-suited model.
